Strategic thinking is an essential element in creating success. It is a never-ending process of what is happening now and what might happen in the future.

Strategic thinking starts with a vision of what a business will be and where it's headed. It set long-term direction and describes what the business in trying to become. Strategic thinking gives the business action steps to create a sense of purpose. It is the process of going from "now" to the "future."

The key element of strategic thinking is vision. Vision is the mountain you need to climb and the reason why you want to climb it. You get to chose the mountain and the reason you want to climb it.

Strategic thinking is a six-step process representing the flow of strategic thinking and the framework for strategic planning:

  1. Understand the Present
  2. Establish a Vision of the Future
  3. Identify the Critical Issues
  4. Establish Goals and Objectives
  5. Develop Action Plans
  6. Plan for and Allocate Resources

When businesses spend more time thinking strategically about the future it usually results in increased profitability and business value.
